This photo may have been taken March 26, 1864 when Mrs. Elizabeth L. Dixon carried a pass from Washington via rail over the Long Bridge to Fairfax Courthouse Virginia, to visit friends and family stationed at Gen. Mead's headquarters.
Staff officers: Lieutenant C. E. La Motte, Captain Robert Smith LaMotte, Major Ryan, Col. James P. McMahon (died June 1864 at Battle of Cold Harbor predeceased by his brother Martin T. McMahon, former aide to Gen. Wright, Mrs. Dixon’s nephews Lieutenant. Ernest Lord Kinney, Nathaniel Cogswell Kinney – sons of Mrs. Mary Kinney, sister of Mrs. Elizabeth Lord Dixon.
No other copy of this photo is known to exist.
History has documented that Elizabeth Dixon refused to sit for the paintings depicting those present at Lincolns deathbed. She was included in "Final Hours of Lincoln" by Alonzo Chappel displayed at Chicago History Museum. This Brady photo may have been used by the artist to complete this first version, showing Elizabeth Dixon seated looking at the artist/photographer.
