This is the text of a bill of sale from John B. Johnson to Chief Justice John Marshall

I hereby bargain, sell and convey an absolute property to John Marshall for 70 pounds which I have this day received from him one Negro wench named Dixie with her child and do not been myself, my heirs execratory & administrators to warrant and defend a complete and totally unencumbered to the said slave and her issue.
